Inferno Nubians is a small, family-owned herd located in York County, PA. Like many other small dairy goat farms, Inferno Nubians started with the infamous idea to just get a couple goats for fun, and suddenly 2 turned to 3, and then backyard pets turned into a registered show herd who's total head count we do not quantify!  While the heart of the operation is powered by Melissa, her two kids are no strangers to the barn, and her daughter in particular has taken an interest in showing and husbandry.  While Melissa's husband is not involved in the dairy goat aspect of the farm, the name of the herd "Inferno" is a kickback to him (a career firefighter) for his patience and understanding of his wife's crazy little obsession, and the multitude of ways that he supports her and her passion for these dairy goats in other ways.

The herd is currently a mix of both American and Purebred does, selected for conformation, production, and hardiness.  The herd genetics are a mix of Chiques, Foxwood, Kasey's Kids, & Starfire.  We enjoy a deep bodied, stylish doe, with good breed character, and the ability to produce well with little effort.  It is also important to us that our does are hardy- we strive for parasite resistance, as well as the ability to maintain weight without excessive supplementation beyond the support necessary for a productive dairy animal.

Hot off the Press: Show News & Farm Updates!

We attended the Spring Fling Dairy Goat Show in Troy, PA in April 2023.  We were so pleased with how our girls did in some impressively sized classes.  Inferno Exclusive Pursuit placed 2nd in both rings, and Inferno Chip's Red Hot Ember placed 2nd and 3rd in the 3 year olds.  The Pennelope, shown by my daughter, placed 1st and 2nd in the 4 year old division.  Inferno Maple Sugar Martini also took first in one junior ring.  It was a great day, and a fun way to hit the ground running for our show season!

Mid Summer- attended MDGA Doe Show.... I definitely missed recording our placings for this one!  The girls did well that behaved!  Inferno Bellagio Crimson Kiss was looking amazing, but decided to lay down in the ring.  She does not enjoy the show scene.  We will see how the last show of the season goes!

York Fair- Our last show of the season due to scheduling conflicts at some of the other ones we had hoped to attend.  We had lots of great placings with our girls, and just a great showing over all.  Inferno Savannah Rose and Inferno Maple Sugar Martini placed first and second in the senior kid's class.  Inferno Chip's Red Hot Ember placed first in her age class.  Foxwood LT Prelude placed second in her Intermediate kid's class.  Bella was again not thrilled to flaunt her stuff in the ring.  Unfortunately, as much as we love how she is developing, I expect to keep her doe kids and find her a suitable farm without the desire to show her.  You win some, you lose some... I am glad to keep her genetics here, and ultimately, I want my girls to enjoy the show aspect as much as I do.  She will stay here until we find her the perfect place!

Linear Appraisal:  We participated in our first LA on August 20, 2023.  We had 3 does appraised, and were extremely pleased with how well they did.  Most importantly, we were so grateful for the knowledge gained by the LA session.  Not only did we learn so much about our own herd, but we felt more equipped to make intentional and productive breeding plans to work towards specific herd goals.  We are ever so much more excited for breeding season, and of course, kidding next year!

We launched two of our bucks into the show world in 2022 at a 3 ring buck show in Maryland.  Both bucks placed well against their peers, and we look forward to bringing Tang back out as a 2 year old in 2023, as well as letting Adrian debut.

We were only able to bring 3 of our girls out to show this season.  Unfortunately with the ADGA backlog, we did not have DNA back on several kids for the duration of the season to enable them to be registered.  Pennelope was dry this year as well, so she also sat out the season.  Ember, Exclusive Pursuit, and Bella were the only three to hit the shows this year.  All three did well.  We are really enjoying watching Ember mature, and as Bella is a full genetic sibling, we have high expectations for her as well.  Exclusive Pursuit is out of a different dam line, and although she comes with a different style than Ember, we really like what we see so far.

In 2021 we launched our girls into the show ring.  We are so pleased with the direction our herd is heading.  Inferno Exclusive Pursuit placed first in her age class at our very first show, and then received RCH for the Juniors.  Mira also received a first in her age group.

At our second show, Inferno Chip's Red Hot Ember and Chiques Chasin' Bubbles both placed first in their respective age classes.  It is exciting to know that we are heading in the right direction with our breeding goals, and we are especially looking forward to next season with the addition of our new Junior Herd Sire, Starfire's WHCG Adrian.
